Garage Sale Shopping 101

Whenever I post photos of my garage sale finds on Instagram (@gingerbreadblog) or the blog I always get a lot of questions about my purchases, like where I go, how do I find such great stuff and how lucky I am. These comments prompted me really think about how I could share my experiences with anyone who was interested in shopping at garage sales, because their really is no luck involved, at all. If you follow some simple rules and work going out to garage sales into your routine, you can easily decorate your home and fill your wardrobe with fabulous things.
As of now I really only shop at garage sales, unless I have a random gift card or find something that's super clearanced at let's say, Target. I have been able to find clothes, crafting supplies, furniture, bedding and dishware through thrifting. Right now I'm sitting in bed on 2 Pottery Barn quilts I bought at thrift stores, for maybe $10 each. You don't have to compromise the brands you love, or your standard of living by thrifting. I love all things vintage, so I love to incorporate those things into my home, but my mom loves Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. We both come home with the things we love because we follow the same rules.
Are you ready to get started? Over the next few weeks I'll be posting my tips and rules with one post dedicated to a certain topic.
I'm hoping they will inspire you to wake up early, drive through Starbucks and have an adventure.

I'm with you on this! By keeping my eyes opened I am able to find whatever I want at garage sales, auctions, and thrift stores. I have wanted an aquarium for several years, but it was impractical because we had moved several times. So, when we finally were able to stay put, I started looking at garage sales, and after looking for a year, I now have a set up aquarium! And, let's not forget, most of our furniture has come from auctions!

I can't wait! You sound a lot like me! Most of our purchases happen from garage sales. Unfortunately, we don't have great thrift shops out there so when garage sale season dies down, I have to wait until May and during the winter I get a little itch. Hopefully dreaming of what is out there will help!

Seriously, you are so right! I am more of a thrift shopper but my mom lives at garage sales and everytime I go over there she has something that I want and when I ask where she got it, it's always garage sales! You just have to keep your eyes open. Found you from bloghop and now following!

Not sure how I managed to not 'follow' you earlier. Apparently I didn't follow everyone from Elevate...I suck! I'm still blogging at Bubbas some but have recently started my old blog up again. I LOVE your garage sale series! Hope you'll be at Elevate again! xoxo
