Keepsake Memory Jar Craft

A few weeks ago I posted my instagram photos from our vacation in San Diego. We soaked in the rays, dug our toes in the sand, and now I have a stack of awesome instagram photos I ordered. We also grabbed a few bottles of sand, shells and mementos from our trip. So my latest project was trying to think of a way to display these goodies.
I thought a memory jar would be super cute!

I bought a wide mouthed glass jar and added all of my beach mementos. It really is that simple, just arrange your items in the jar in a creative way. Display and your done!

I used a circle punch to make a mini sign from a souvenir map that was free at a pizza shop we ate at. It was great pizza. :)

I hung our instagram family photo from bakers twine and wooden skewers. I just grabbed things I had around the house.
You could use:
> Plane\train\movie tickets
> Receipts from a special purchase
> Anything from nature (leaves, pine cones, dried flowers)
> Photos
> Keepsakes
> Greeting cards

The possibilities are endless!

My Bathroom Makeover Reveal!

I'm pretty sure I have the smallest bathroom that has ever existed. Dramatic much. :) We have a really small downstairs bathroom with just a sink and toilet, and I have struggled with my great dislike for this said bathroom for about 3 years (the entire time we have lived here). When we moved the bathroom had a pedestal sink with a huge hose coming out of it for the air conditioning condensation, an oval mirror and DARK burgundy paint that was applied over this thick plaster that looked like waves. Long story short it was awful. My dad said it looked like a gas station bathroom.
Awesome.
So my poor dad volunteered to sand the walls smooth and fix them, but when I repainted the bathroom I made a few mistakes in my choice of paint that hopefully you won't by reading this post.

1. I chose a very light color yellow that I thought would "open up" the space, but I didn't take into account that the vanity was white, so after painting the bathroom everything looked uniform and blah. There was no pop of color, only shades of white.
2. I chose an eggshell finish that I thought was perfectly normal because there isn't a shower in that bathroom. I thought semi-gloss paint was to protect the walls from the steam. Woops. I should have chosen a semi-gloss to reflect the light in the small space. Lesson learned.
3. I left the oval mirror even though I hated it. If you don't like something don't be cheap. I should have saved for a mirror I liked and waited on the project until I had everything. I decorated on impulse and the fact that I just "wanted it done".

Decorating and remodeling shouldn't be done on impulse. This time I waited until I had all the pieces of the puzzle and them went forward with project. My mom gave me the thrifted mirror months ago, but I waited until I chose the exact color I wanted. I just stored the mirror in my garage.

Here is my colorful and happy tiny bathroom.

It was difficult getting a great full length photo considering the tiniest bathroom ever is right across from the stairs, but you can see how the vanity and toilet pop from the turquoise wall color. I probably would have gotten away with a pale yellow if the vanity was a dark wood color.

I love love love the mirror. It was worth the wait.

I have also learned to NOT toss any banners that I've made after I'm done with them. I was able to pull this sweet burlap number out that was coincidentally the same color scheme I was going for. Score!

This window frame literally came from someones trash, for real. I can't pass up chippy paint! My husband staple gunned some chicken wire to it and I clipped some awesome artwork I won from Blossom and Vine. Again in the same color scheme.

I am beyond the moon happy with the tiniest bathroom. I definitely learned my "how to choose paint wisely" lesson. I hope it helped you as well.
Swoon.

5 Things Tuesday >> Upcoming Fall Fashion Favorites

"The number 5 is my favorite, hence my need to pick 5 things that tickle my fancy every Tuesday"

I am anxiously awaiting Fall. I know, I know it's crazy, but can't you just see yourself with your hair up in a high bun, scarf wrapped around your neck holding a pumpkin latte...
You know you want to.
I would love to push the fast forward button to October, but instead I will plan my Fall crafts and recipes and pour over these fashion trends I can't wait to wear.

Enter my 5 trends:

I'm way into big, chunky sweaters this year paired with jeans. I'd like to have one in every color. :)

Holy favorite color! I need everything in this burnt orange color please.

Military-inspired clothing. I may have to "borrow" Kaleb's army jacket he has in his closet, the joy of having an 11 year old is that his shirts fit me.

I'm thinking my first Fall nail polish color will be a deep burgundy color. Swoon.

Leather will be a huge trend this Fall, and this embroidered cuff tutorial is on my list for a craft night with my girlfriends. Loves.

What trend are you head over heals for...
Come on Fall, I'm so ready!

Dylan's Birthday Photo Shoot

To say that I am in denial that this sweet handsome prince is turning 5 on Sunday is an understatement. My head is totally stuck in the sand. :)
I think it has something to do with Dylan being my youngest. Boo.

I did manage to grab a few things I had around the house to take a few keepsake photos of Dylan being Dylan. These pictures aren't really that posed, if you drove by my house any afternoon you would see Dylan sitting at the end of our driveway with his Nino's leather vest and a guitar, just waiting for someone to come out and play.
That's just Dylan.

Happy almost birthday sweetie.
Now I'm off to my happy place...

Oh Hello Friend Vintage Warehouse Sale

Last weekend I shopped an awesome vintage sale put on by two of my favorite bloggers Danni from Oh Hello Friend and Rubyellen from Cakies. It was real treat to meet bloggers in person that I had "followed" for years. I have enjoyed their crafts, recipes and all around general creative passion. I find them both to be great sources of inspiration in my own life.
I jumped at the chance to grab a coffee, shop and meet new friends.

Can you tell I was excited...
Don't mind the mess in the backseat, I had two huge vintage frames I grabbed from the alley, for future projects. :)

I was on vintage overload. There were so many colorful, lovely one of a kind items for sale. Sweet baby clothes, rustic schoolhouse items and giant porcelain letters and numbers were all calling my name. I think I wandered around picking things up and setting them down for about an hour. I just couldn't decide how to narrow down what I was going to buy.

The highlight of my day was meeting Rubyellen. She was incredibly nice and gave me a big hug. We chatted for a few minutes and I was amazed at how she genuinely attempted to meet everyone who approached her with a friendly face. I walked away feeling like she appreciated me as a follower as much as I loved her blog.

I left with these lovelies, I thought the "swoon" block was more than fantastic, considering it's my favorite word.
If you haven't checked out Oh Hello Friend or Cakies you should, their blogs are amazing!

5 Things Tuesday >> Mason Jar Crafts

"The number 5 is my favorite, hence my need to pick 5 things that tickle my fancy every Tuesday"

Two things to know about me:
1. I love to drink out of mason jars, I have an entire cupboard full of thrifted jars in every size.
2. I prefer to only drink out of a straw....is that weird. :)

Number 1 and 2 together make me really happy, but did you know there are like 1000 other uses for mason jars...
If you are in a crafty mood you can use a mason jar for almost any project, so this weeks 5 Things is a compilation of links for crafts using mason jars! Enjoy!

I'm thinking these silhouettes would be great for Valentines Day or Christmas.
I pretty much love them. The end.

I really need a new pin cushion, this would be perfect and adorable.

Ummm this sweet mason jar terrarium is so sweet.

I need these dreamy votives....I'm thinking they would be great for a craft night with friends.

This under the shelf storage is both functional and cute.

Do you love mason jars...
What is your favorite way to craft with them...
